Politically Incorrect Pacquiao Gets My Vote

As we all know, Rep. Manny Pacquiao is running for a senate seat this coming election in May. And this early, I have vetted all possible candidates and admittedly he did not make my shortlist. I have to be honest, I have shown my bias against him as Senate is not a place for him. One obvious reason being he’s running under the party of Vice president Jejomar Binay as its presidential bet, himself arguably the most corrupt politician in the Philippines by virtue of massive corruption charges. Pacquiao’s choice of party itself is already a big red flag, that to me diminishes his own credibility, integrity or lack thereof. Why would a popular, outspoken, bible - quoting born again Christian would want to be associated let alone support a corrupt politician like Binay?

Two weeks ago, he gave a rousing speech during the proclamation rally of vice president Jejomar Binay when he said “Binay is destined to be our next president”. That to me was a nail in the coffin until that infamous interview last week that set both mainstream and social media on fire when he spoke against same-sex marriage which I am also against.

Manny has been a born again believer over the course of three or four years, he is fairly new in the faith and I believe he is still a work in progress, and this probably explains why he sometimes finds himself in so many questionable endeavors like making alliances with blatantly corrupt and lying politicians. He is probably not the most intelligent person and the best communicator there is, if only for his unmistakable accent that has become a natural fodder for comedy bars (his mother and siblings also get their fair share oftentimes), and his poor diction has helped launch many Manny counterfeits a career in comedy .

In the interview, he was asked specifically about his stand on same-sex marriage. It was not a scenario of him blabbing about his religious belief to random people. As a Christian, it was natural of him to make an honest answer which he did according to his conviction and belief. Being passionate about his faith and wanting to really drive a point in a manner that is easily relatable, he cited an analogy that beasts are better/smarter than humans who are into same-sex intercourse for animals can distinguish a male from a female.

Below is the transcript of the interview verbatim:
"As a Christian, same-sex marriage is prohibited, female was created for male, male was created for female. For me, it's just common sense. Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations? Animals are better because they recognise gender differences, and if you have male-to-male or female-to-female (relationships), then people are worse than animals, but I am not condemning. I am not condemning them, just the marriage, committing sin against God."

The level of hostility towards Manny Pacquiao from people small and great is not in any way surprising. In fact, the repercussion is expected and every Christian who reads their Bible knows what is coming. We are living in a dark world where the almighty God (who spoke everything into existence) is becoming irrelevant and obsoleted, where immorality has become society’s norm, and speaking the truth is hate speech to those who are wallowing in the mire of sin and immorality. “Woe to them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” says in Isaiah 5:20.

Turns out, some professing Christians have spoken against Manny Pacquiao, one of them is popular singer Yeng Constantino. She made a video and posted it on her FB page. In the video, she bannered her being a Christian, and that she’s angry at the comparison between humans and animals as she later confessed she has a sibling who is homosexual, and that as a Christian she would never hurt anyone’s feelings. She distanced herself from Pacquiao’s brand of Christianity as something she does not see herself being identified with for “God gave me a ministry of reconciliation, love and acceptance”.

Jesus Christ says in Matthew 10:37-38, “He that loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. He that takes not his cross, and follow after Me, is not worthy of Me.” True Christians always put God first in everything, even above our loved ones and all the things we treasure. When God says “... And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” in Deuteronomy 6:5, it is not a suggestion, it is a command which we should all fearfully follow. If Ms. Constantino is a true Christian as she claims to be and truly loves her brother, then she should tell him the truth of what the Scripture says about homosexuality, that it is a sin and a violation of God’s law, that whoever practices homosexuality will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Don’t think God hates homosexuals, John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

It’s incredible how God uses this issue to separate the sheep from the goats. “By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.” (1 John 3:10).

As of now, this news is all over, and many of Manny’s friends, supporters, and sponsors have turned their backs on him. More than a million of his twitter followers unfollowed him overnight after hearing the news. Those fans (Filipinos and foreigners alike) who once cheered for him in all of his fights are now speaking up against him because he stood for his faith and conviction.

It’s a rough road, but I know something good and beautiful will come out of this at the end. I believe that God is teaching Manny Pacquiao something that will further strengthen his faith, and change him to the person God wants him to be.“For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and whips every son whom he receives.“ (Hebrews 12:6).

Manny, praying that God continually give you wisdom, knowledge and discernment to continue your walk in the truth of God’s Word. That you continue to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone most especially to your family and loved ones. You have my vote Manny because you have proven that God’s righteousness is not a strange and irrelevant virtue but a beacon of light amid an increasingly godless and unbelieving society. God bless you.

At The Philippine Consulate Today

I went to the Philippine consulate here in Jeddah early this morning for the renewal of my passport and also to get my voter's ID which I should have gotten back in 2009. I've finished what I came there to do in just approximately 30 minutes. Quick tips for those who will renew their passports prepare everything ahead of time, download your required form from the (Jeddah) consulate's web page, read it carefully and fill it with the required information correctly so that you won't have to do it on the queue. Be there before 8 AM.

For those of you (here in Jeddah) who applied for a voter's ID from 2009 until 2012 and still have not claimed it, you can check it on the 3rd floor of the consulate. Just provide a valid ID and they will look for your voter's ID for you.
